Dr. Abby Hurley is a licensed clinical psychologist who serves as the Director of the Center for Values-Based Living and as a partner at Heritage Professional Associates as well as Assistant Professor at Midwestern University. She earned her doctorate in clinical psychology in 2012 from Wheaton College and has two decades worth of experience with adolescents and adults in inpatient, residential, crisis, and outpatient settings. Her particular areas of interest include emotion dysregulation, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, maternal mental health concerns, dissociation, self-harm behavior, suicidality, the exploration of gender & sexuality, ADHD, and trauma. Dr. Hurley is committed to providing care that emphasizes developing present-moment awareness of what is going on inside and around you and making new choices in the face of life’s struggles to move towards what is important. As the director of the Center for Values-Based Living she specializes in using evidence-based practices such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, & Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, along with somatic approaches such as Havening, Sensorimotor, and Deep Brain Reorienting with a caring and individualized approach. Dr. Hurley functions as a clinical supervisor for student therapists working primarily within the Center for Values-Based Living. Outside of HPA, Dr. Hurley serves on the board for the Association of Contextual Behavioral Sciences Chicago Chapter and has held faculty positions at The Chicago School for Professional Psychology and Wheaton College. In her free time, Dr. Hurley spends every precious moment with her children and likes to take in live music every chance she can get. The beauty of a ray of sunshine has been known to cause momentary distraction and she is drawn to the simple pleasures of food, the written word, and laughter. She also has a developed interest in navigating restrictive food lifestyles in life-giving ways.
